Thoughts from the industry experts

Is Crimsafe the best

As a Crimsafe licensee specialising solely in the manufacture and installation of Crimsafe for the past ten years, we can safely say it is the strongest security screen currently on the market. How can we make such a claim and where is the proof ? It is based upon the Australian standards (see below). Crimsafe exceeded these standards, determined through independent testing by the University of Queensland, with results indicated in the table below. Crimsafe has demonstrated superior strength against impact, is highly resistant to knife attack, withstands lever tool or jemmy attacks, cannot be pulled down and the screens are continually advancing the limits of cyclone testing. It really is not safe, unless it’s Crimsafe. Contact us today for your free measure and quote. For further information please Download the Crimsafe Impact Testing Fact Sheet Australian Standards AS5039: 2008 – Security Screen Door and Security Window Grilles is the standard that the Australian security screen industry is based on. It sets out the specifications that define a security door or window grille. AS5041-2003 sets out the performance standards that security doors and window grilles are tested...

Do pet doors compromise security?

Can burglars get through dog flaps? Do pet doors work to compromise your home security? The answer is both yes and no. A small pet door for a cat or a toy dog generally will not compromise your home security. Even a medium pet door is considered quite safe. This is providing that the door behind it is locked and secured. If you leave everything unlocked then a burglar could potentially reach through with some kind of tool and release the door. If all is locked, as it should be, then the burglar shouldn’t get through the cat flap. The problems arise from a large pet door. An agile burglar could quite easily get through and this could potentially happen whilst you’re still at home which is quite a scary thought. Obviously the large pet door is usually home to a large dog which is often a deterrent in itself, but there is the possibility of a burglar quite easily gaining access to your home. Consequently, Crimsafe has deemed the addition of any size pet door fitted even with Crimsafe security screens as a compromise to the security of the finished product. Additionally, a pet door will weaken the mesh. I walk and take care of a number of dogs within the Northside Brisbane area. If I am pet sitting and there is a large pet door then I only ever leave the adjacent door unlocked if I am in close proximity and always when I have complete view of the pet flap. If I am sitting close by and reading for example, then I will let the dog have...

Crimsafe difference: structural grade 304 stainless steel

This week Activate Security will explain why Crimsafe security screens use thicker Structural Grade 304 stainless steel. Other security screens on the market use 316 Marine grade stainless steel. Crimsafe security screens use 304 stainless steel. The reason is because 304 has a higher tensile strength than 316, which means it can resist more force applied against it and is highly effective against knife attack. Crimsafe simply state that they use 304 Structural Grade Stainless Steel because it performs better. It takes more punishment and is more economical than all the other stainless steel varieties that Crimsafe have tested and...
